Bouchard wins a match!

This should not be news, but after losing 8 of the last 9 matches, many are wondering about Genie Bouchard’s ability to make things right.

Eventually the world no.12 managed to defeat world no.42 Alison Riske 7-5 6-3 in the Eastbourne opener, but it wasn’t easy. Alison got an immediate 2-0 lead in the first set when finally the Canadian started to play good tennis to win 4 consecutive games and then grab the first set at the breaker.

In the second set Genie got the decisive break in the 6th game to finally win the match 7-6 (5) 6-3. Match Stats.

Bouchard: It has been tough

Genie commented “It has been tough. It’s definitely been a learning experience. I have had to learn to be patient and understand that there are going to be ups and downs in lives, and in tennis, and keep working and believing in what I do, no matter what, and know there’s light at the end of the tunnel. That’s what I’ve been doing, putting my head down and working and knowing it will turn around.”

Next vs. Bencic

Genie will play rising star Belinda Bencic for a place in the quarters.
