Bad bad news from Naomi Osaka that sadly had to withdraw from the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix because of an abdominal injury.
The world no.1 reached the semifinal in Stuttgart after an incredible performance in the quarters against Donna Vekic that helped her to win the match from a desperate scoreline when she was 1-5 down in the decider (story).
Osaka’s comment and plans
Naomi commented
“I feel like even though it’s bad that I got injured here, I’m happy that it’s at the beginning [of the clay season] and not Rome where it’s really close to French Open.
When I want to win a lot I tend to panic, but I feel like I found the calm space again. I think it’s really good and I’m glad I played this tournament.
I’m just happy that I won two matches, honestly. This was a really good boost for me because it let me know that even though I’m internalizing pain or feelings, I can still win matches.”
Naomi will stay in Europe to asses her injury.
Unfortunately @Naomi_Osaka_ has to withdraw from this year‘s Porsche Tennis Grand Prix semifinals.
Therefore, Anett Kontaveit is through to the final.
Get well soon, Naomi! 🍀#porschetennis #PTGP19 #centreofattraction pic.twitter.com/MhIvgTpDQR
