On and off the tennis court, Coco Gauff is still an inspiration. The tennis star, who is 19 years old, not only achieved her first Grand Slam at the US Open. But she is also influencing culture through her work as an actor.

This year, Gauff appeared in a cameo on the episode of “All American: Homecoming” on The CW. The lives of various college students attending Bringston University, an imaginary historically Black college in Atlanta, Georgia, are followed in the “Homecoming” sequel series.

In an episode of Season 2, The Bringston University women’s tennis team enlists Gauff’s assistance in “Stand Up for Something,”  after being subjected to racial profiling during a traffic stop on the way to a match.

In the episode, the players miss their season after leaving their tennis match when authorities searched their belongings without a warrant for drugs and weapons. Later, the choice to keep playing is presented to the women. They must sign NDAs and refrain from discussing the police stop, but there is a catch. The team members decline and instead decide to enlist Gauff to assist them in conveying their message.

Nkechi Okoro Carroll, the co-showrunner of the series, recently discussed how special it was having Gauff appear in the program. She said: “Honestly, it was a dream come true. We’re such big Coco fans here. It was one of those things where when we were talking about the episode, we were thinking, ‘If something like this happened in real life for a tennis team, who are the tennis players that we have out there right now who would stand up and fight?”
