Sorana Cirstea criticized Serena Williams for her arrogant attitude to Simona Halep’s four-year suspension for violating anti-doping regulations. Halep was accused of two violations of the Tennis Anti-Doping Program last week.
The initial accusation resulted from Halep returning a positive test for the illegal chemical roxadustat at last year’s US Open, according to the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
In the Wimbledon 2019 women’s singles final, Halep, a two-time grand slam champion, triumphed against Williams. In the moments following Halep’s decision, Williams took to social media saying that should have won the eighth slam All-England Club that was denied by Simona
According to Cirstea, Williams’ ego is evident from the above comment. Cirstea expressed her thoughts in an interview and said: “I know Simona. I don’t think she ever consciously doped. This suspension is for an innocent person. I was afraid to take anything, I was afraid to take an aspirin. I’m maybe a little paranoid, but it’s no joke. It’s every athlete’s nightmare.”
She further stated remarks about Serena Williams and said: “Serena as a player was extraordinarily good. As a person, she always had this arrogance. She didn’t accept when someone could beat her or take a title from her.”
