The Shanghai Masters, which will take place from October 4–15, 2023, is going to mark the ATP tour’s return to Shanghai, China.
The Shanghai Masters, an ATP 1000 Masters competition, has been on break since 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the tournament to be postponed, and Daniil Medvedev won the competition that year.
World no. 1 Novak Djokovic will not compete in Asia this year and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is expected to be the top favorite at the event. Along with other top 10 athletes, the defending champion Medvedev, Holger Rune, and Stefanos Tsitsipas will compete.
The prize pool will offer an attractive $8,800,000 for the winner with so many outstanding performers at the event. As the race to the year-ending ATP Finals heats up, the winner of the competition will also take home 1,000 ranking points.

Novak Djokovic in 2023
Ranked world no.1, the Serbian played his last match on the 15th of September when he overcame world no.25 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3 6-4 in the Rubber 2 of the Davis Cup (draw).
Currently, during this year Djokovic has achieved a composed 46-5 record. The Serbian conquered 5 titles in 2023 in Adelaide, Australian Open, French Open, Cincinnati and U.S. Open. The Serbian got to the final in Wimbledon.
Carlos Alcaraz in 2023
Currently ranked no.2, Carlos played his last match on the 8th of September when he surrendered to world no.3 Daniil Medvedev 7-6(3) 6-1 3-6 6-3 in the semifinal of the U.S. Open (draw).
At the moment, during this season Carlos has achieved a composed 58-7 record. Carlos has won 6 titles in 2023 in Buenos Aires, Indian Wells, Barcelona, Madrid, London and Wimbledon. The Spaniard got to the final in Rio de Janeiro and Cincinnati.
Alcaraz will play next in Beijing (China Open). He will start to play the tournament from the main draw that will commence on the 28th of September.
