According to Aryna Sabalenka, her father wanted her to hold the No. 1 ranking in the world, therefore she started playing tennis. In November 2019, Sabalenka experienced an immense heartbreak as her father Sergey passed away suddenly at the age of 43.

Sabalenka stated in an interview after her father’s sudden death: “It was something unexpected, he was young, he was 43, and I didn’t want to say that but I think people should know.”

Sabalenka stated that she was simply attempting to compete for her father because he wished her to get the no. 1 ranking in the world.

She highlighted her father’s wish in an interview: “I’m just trying to fight because my dad wanted me to be no. 1. I’m doing it for him so that’s what is helping me to be strong right now.”
