Young Australians advance in Paris

Nick Kyrgios, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Bernard Tomic had a good start in Paris.

Kyrgios

Nick had a very solid match against Istomin to win 6-3 6-4 6-3 in just 1 hour and 38 minutes. Kyrgios was particularly effective in defending 9 break points (of 11). Match Stats

Kyrgios will face Edmund in the second round. They have never played each other.

Kokkinakis

Thanasi defeated Basilashvili 3-6 6-4 7-6 (4) 6-2 without playing a smashing match, but that was still enough to advance “It’s great to be in the main draw this year and get a win. It was a scrappy win, but  happy I got through in the end.” Match Stats.

Tomic

Bernard defeated Vanni 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-4. (Match Stats) The Australian wasn’t at his best has he still need to recover from a virus that made him to withdraw from Nice last week “[I] wasn’t feeling that good; still sick. I’m] getting better, but still a little bit down, so it was tough out there. Everything felt much, much longer than it was. I was really feeling the fatigue out there. Happy I won in the end. It was a tough win for me.”

With this win Bernard interrupts a nasty 5 matches losing streak.

Kokkinakis vs Tomic

Unfortunately Thanasi and Bernard will clash in the 2nd round. Of course they know each other’s game very well. They have already clashed twice this year and Tomic won in both occasions, but giving the fact the Tomic is still struggling with his fitness, Kokkinakis has a good shot at advancing to the third round.
