Amanda Anisimova in the Bogota semifinal after gutsy performance

Amanda wins an extremely tough match in Bogota against Maria Camila Osorio Serrano

Amanda Anisimova

Bogota. Amanda Anisimova shows strong character after winning a very complicated quarterfinal in Bogota against local favorite Maria Camila Osorio Serrano.

The match

Amanda and Maria Camila are both 17, and they are very good prospects. However, in “normal circumstances” Anisimova would not be expected to struggle against the Colombian. That was not the case on Friday in Bogota’ because Maria is more used to the local conditions (altitude) and she had the full support of a very hot crowd.

After an excellent start (6-2), Amanda had to face a strong comeback of her opponent in the second set to lose 6-1. Eventually, the American got a strong 3-0 lead in the decider, but after she failed to hold her serve in a gigantic 4th game (3-1) things got quite complicated (3-2). The crowd was completely into the match to go on fire for every single point won by the Colombian and Amanda was extremely good in keeping her cool trusting her superior tennis.

Anisimova had a critical hold in the 8th game (5-3) after she recovered a 0-40 deficit before winning the encounter 6-2 1-6 6-3 in 1 hour and 51 minutes.
