Tommy Paul Hit Umpire On The Face

During his third-round match against Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters, Tommy Paul accidentally hit the umpire.

Fergus Murphy learned the hard way at the Cincinnati ATP 1000 tournament that umpiring can be a difficult job at times. Paul prepared to serve during the warm-up, but things didn’t turn out the way he had hoped. The ball was launched out of his racket with an absurd angle of speed.

The scenario that occurred was one of immediate worry and shock. Paul’s expression changed to one of shock and sadness. He ran straight for the chair of the umpire. The umpire was aware that it was a true miss, so there was no cause for a potential elimination, which generally occurs after the player hits someone.

After Paul ran towards the umpire, he was assured by him that there in no need to be worried. The umpire said: “It’s okay. It’s okay. I just… Maybe I… It’s good I didn’t see it. That’s okay.”
