I am too aggressive. SHAPOVALOV

Denis admits that he needs to be a little more aggressive on court

Shapovalov too aggressive

Denis Shapovalov is one of the most aggressive young players on tour.

The young Canadian can reach incredible peaks with his powerful swings to potentially beat everyone. That was well proven during his first deep run at an ATP1000 at the 2017 Rogers Cup where he reached the final after stunning Juan Martin Del Potro and Rafael Nadal. However, being too aggressive could be detrimental if you want to say up in the rankings consistently.

Why Shapovalov thinks he is too aggressive

The Canadian is well aware that if he wants to find some continuity in his results, he needs to be a bit more conservative to comment

I always played aggressively. I like to dictate the game. It’s an ability I’ve developed from a very young age.”

Talking about the fact that he struggled to go beyond a 3rd round in a slam in 2018, Shapovalov commented

“I was sometimes too aggressive. It’s something that I have to improve since I went pro. Many players are now looking to be more offensive. Me, it’s the opposite.”

Shapovalov with a new coach

Denis is currently in Monte Carlo where he is getting ready for the upcoming ATP1000 with Adriano Furivia that is rumored to be his new coach. They will probably work on giving more “stability” to Denis’ tennis.

Still, work in progress.
