HUGE TENSION: Maria Sakkari quarrels with Danielle Collins for smacking the ball in the crowd

Danielle Collins reportedly told Maria Sakkari to "shut your mouth" following a heated confrontation during their encounter in Montreal.

During their encounter at the National Bank Canadian Open (Omnium Banque Nationale) in Montreal, Danielle Collins reportedly warned Maria Sakkari to “shut your mouth” after a furious exchange.

In the second round of the WTA 1000 competition, Collins faced Sakkari. The American surprised everyone by winning the match 6-4, 6-2 in straight sets. Collins won the game with relative ease, but it wasn’t a walk in the park as the two players got into a fight over Sakkari’s response to dropping a point.

When the call for the Greek player’s shot came through, Collins had already directed the ball across the goal. Sakkari rage-hit it hard on the ground when it reached her out of annoyance. After then, the ball violently bounce up and went into the stands, but it missed everyone.

Collins, though, was unimpressed and asked the chair umpire: “Did you see that? Did you just see what happened?”

Sakkari immediately defended herself: “It didn’t even hit – It didn’t hit anyone… It was on the ground.”

Collins’ temper started to break a little at this time and she said: “Shut your mouth. Shut your mouth.”
