Roger Federer and Denis Shapovalov

At 19 years of age, Denis Shapovalov is about to play the quarters at the Miami Open against his dear friend Frances Tiafoe.

The Canadian is well-known for his die-hard attitude and his famous expression “I have ice in the vein” that “celebrates” his capability to remain cool during crunch time.

In what aspect Shapovalov wants to be like Federer

All the young generation looks up at the tennis legends that are still battling such as Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic. The Canadian is used to say that he tries to “copy” some aspects from all of them.

During a recent interview, Denis elaborates what he would like to emulate Roger Federer in one specific aspect: getting less emotional on court. The 19-year-old commented

“That, of course, could be a big step for me [being less emotional]. I’m still trying to mature and have a better attitude on court. I really look up to Roger in that case. He was pretty emotional himself on the court, and he found a way to change himself and become the great ambassador and the role model he is today, so I’m hoping to follow his path.”

Denis will try to apply this attitude when playing Tiafoe for a place in the semifinal. The head to head is 1-all, and he will need all his mental strength to beat the American.
