EXPLAINED. Why Djokovic lost early in the Miami Open

Nole lost in 3 sets to Roberto Bautista Agut to give some explanations about what happened

Novak Djokovic explaining his defeat in Miami

World no.1 Novak Djokovic is the man to beat right now, and he was the favorite to win both Indian Wells and the Miami Open. Eventually, he crashed out in the 3rd round in California and the 4th in Florida to surprise the tennis community.

In Miami, the Serbian didn’t look himself against an extremely sharp Roberto Bautista Agut and after a strong start (6-1 1-0), the world no.1 lost his confidence to be defeated in 3 sets. Djokovic looked a bit out of sorts in the decider against the Spaniard also showing a horrible body language.

Was his preparation the biggest problem?

During the press conference following his loss, Djokovic was asked if something was happening outside the tennis court and Nole cut short saying”There is always a lot happening in my life.”

Djokovic took a long break after the Australian Open to spend some quality time with his family. Apparently, that break was a little too long. Therefore, talking about his preparation, Nole added

“It’s not the first time that I lose early in these tournaments. Definitely, I need to rethink I prepare for Indian Wells and Miami next year.

[There are] way too many things off the court, and I guess that affected me a little bit on the court. I didn’t feel my best self wise as well i Indian Wells and here. [I was] still rusty, but you learn that’s life.”
