Shapovalov has a tough draw at the Miami Open

Denis wasn't very lucky with the draw in Florida

Denis Shapovalov is about to start his Miami Open where last year he lost in the 4th round to Borna Coric.

This year the Canadian is seeded no.20, and he will start his campaign from the 2nd round. However, Denis was not very lucky with his draw, and he has to beat a couple of very tough opponents if he wants to improve his 2018 record.

After the 1st round bye, Denis should face the world no.59 Malek Jaziri that in 2019 has won just 3 matches of 11.

Things will get immediately complicated in the 3rd round when Denis should face the world no.11 Marin Cilic. The Croatian is not having a dream season and Denis defeated him recently in Indian Wells 6-4 6-2, but he is still a very strong player for a 3rd round match.

In the 4th round, Denis may clash with Stefanos Tsitsipas that before Indian Wells reached two back to back finals (Marseille where he won the title and Dubai).

If Denis goes deep in the tournament, he may play Sascha Zverev in the quarters, Roger Federer in the semifinal, and Novak Djokovic in the final.

Here the summary of Denis’ projected path

R1  – Bye
R2  – Jaziri
R3  – Cilic
R4  – Tsitsipas
1/4 – Zverev
1/2 – Federer
Fin  – Djokovic
