Nishikori reaches the Memphis final!

Kei Nishikori had a rather tough tournament in Memphis.

Seeded no.1, the Japanese is trying to win his 3rd consecutive title in Memphis, but this time he is really struggling. Kei reached the final winning every single match after recovering from 1 set down.  In the semifinal the world no.5 faced local favorite Sam Querrey.  Kei won 5-7 7-6 (5) 7-6 (5) after a 2 hours and 41 minutes fight.

Nishikori: I thought I might have lost

Kei confessed he wasn’t 100% sure about his chances to comment “I thought a couple times that I might lose today. I knew it was going to be tough because I didn’t break any of his serves and he was hitting a lot of ace. It was really tough to make any returns.  I’m very happy to come to the final again. I’m a little bit tired from playing three tough matches, but it’s just one more match.”

The final vs. Anderson

Kei will play Kevin Anderson in the final that has beaten Donald Young in the semifinal 4-6 6-3 6-4.  Kevin and Kei have played each other 5 times. Head to head is 1-0 for the Japanese.
