WTA Rankings. Serena rules, Venus close to top10

After a very interesting Australian Open, it seems that the big winners are the “extended Williams’ clan”. Serena, Venus, Wozniacki (Serena’s big friend) and Madison Keys (Serena’s heiress) have all gained precious points to improve their rankings.

Serena

OK Serena was already world no.1, so she couldn’t improve her rank, but winning the Australian Open helped her to consolidate her lead over the world no.2. The American is now 1566pts ahead of Maria Sharapova.

Venus

The former world no.1 climbs 7 positions to be now ranked no.11. If she keeps on playing like she did in January she will definitely break in the top10.

Wozniacki

Caroline had a rather miserable Australian Open to crash out in the second round at the hands of Vika Azarenka. The Dane managed to climb 3 places taking advantage of 3 players losing many more points than her (Ivanovic, Bouchard and Radwanska).

Keys

Madison is probably the “2nd winner” of this Australian Open. The American teenager displayed to possess amazing tennis to reach an unexpected semifinal in Melbourne. This feat helped her to climb 15 places and be ranked world no.15 (career high). More to come.

Brengle

We have another happy American (and happy Madison) that had a great experience at the Australian Open. Madison Brengle had a super January to reach the final in Hobart coming straight from the qualifications and soon after she reached the 4th round in Melbourne. After her latest result Madison jumped 18 places to be ranked no.46 (career high).
