Marin Cilic, who placed third at Wimbledon in 2017, won’t be taking part in this year’s All England Club tournament since it appears that his knee surgery rehabilitation has been hampered. Cilic appeared at Wimbledon 14 times in a row between 2007 and 2021.

Due to a positive COVID-19 test Cilic was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon last year. Cilic is unable to attend Wimbledon this year because of an injury. Cilic had surgery to treat a knee problem in January.

Cilic revealed over the weekend that he wouldn’t be able to compete in’s-Hertogenbosch this week with the following statement: “Hey guys! Quick update: Even though my team and I made the difficult decision to skip @libemaopen next week, I am very close to a return to competitive tennis and eager to play tournaments. My knee has been responding well to a heavy load of training, but we assessed that some extra time will give me better preparation and assurance. The process is long but I am patient in order to be 100% ready.”
