Matteo Berrettini leaves the court in tears after being brushed aside by Lorenzo Sonego in Stuttgart

Matteo Berrettini has experienced the most bad luck in his career.

Berrettini In Tears

With a sad defeat at the 2023 Stuttgart Open, Matteo Berrettini is going through another trying phase in his career.

Tennis fans would undoubtedly point to Matteo Berrettini as the ATP Tour player who has experienced the most bad luck over the course of the past year. The Italian skipped the entire clay-court season last year, yet he still managed to return. Following his return, Berrettini won two straight grass-court competitions, but he was once again struck by a bad luck streak and was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon with Covid, where he was the defending finalist.

The 2023 struggle

Matteo went into the 2023 season full of optimism, hoping to put all of that behind him. However, he had to withdraw from the Roland Garros and all of the events leading up to it due to an injury that forced him to miss practically the whole clay-court season.

Yet, when the grass-court season returned, Berrettini was aware that he might once more demonstrate his abilities on his preferred surface, but that didn’t happen. The 27-year-old was only able to win three games against fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego in the opening round of the 2023 Stuttgart Open.

Unfortunately, as per the following video Matteo Berrettini left the court in tears.
