Troicki back to heaven in Sydney!

What a great week for Viktor Troicki!

The Serbian was still in the process of recovering his ranking after having received the controversial ban for doping and finally his life has become much rosier. Viktor has managed to win an incredible title in Sydney coming straight from the qualifications.

Viktor had to face Mikhail Kukushkin in the final that was also coming from the qualifications (first time in tennis history that 2 qualifiers were the finalist in ATP event!). The final was about who had the best fitness after playing for 8th consecutive days and at the end of the day it was Troicki to prevail with a “comfortable”  6-2 6-3.

Troicki: It has been a tough road…

Viktor commented “There are a lot of emotions actually. It’s been a tough road, a lot of work, and it paid off with a nice title. If I look back to where I was five, six months ago, it’s amazing to have a title already.  So it’s a really nice moment for me and for all my team. It’s very emotional.”

… I have been working harder than ever

Then he added “I’ve got to say I have been working harder than ever probably, and I feel very, very fit. I didn’t have any problems. I had eight matches here and luckily I haven’t had problems. I feel very fresh again. I feel I can go again good on Monday. Definitely I was working hard and that’s paying off. I have inside myself trust in my body, and I feel I can do a lot of things.”

This is the 2nd career title for Viktor after winning Moscow in 2010.

Now Viktor will head to Melbourne to play the 1st round of the Australian Open. It’s quite curious the fact that Troicki will face the winner of the “other” tournament of this week (Vesely).
