Many people believed Berrettini’s frequent public appearances with his new partner were a hint that he was not fully devoting his time to tennis but rather to other activities.
Berrettini stated that such comments are extremely disrespectful in a recent interview: “At this point in life, seeing a relationship as a distraction for a professional athlete seems disrespectful to me. It would be like saying that a journalist writes worse articles because he has a wife and children. It is something that does not make any kind of sense, does it?”
