Novak Djokovic’s refusal to receive the COVID-19 vaccine prevents him from entering the US. Djokovic lost the top men’s singles ranking to the 19-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz on Monday after being forced to miss Indian Wells. The 35-year-old has maintained the position for the most weeks of any player. Additionally, Djokovic will lose some more precious points for not playing in the Miami Open.

Nevertheless, the Serbian sensation revealed that even if he had loved to play both tournaments in the US, he has no regrets about his decision.

“No, I have no regrets,” Djokovic said to CNN’s Anderson. “I’ve learned through life that regrets only hold you back and basically make you live in the past. And I don’t want to do that. I also don’t want to live too much in the future. I want to be as much as in the present moment, but of course, think about the future, create a better future.”

“It’s a pity that I wasn’t able to play in Indian Wells [and] Miami. I love those tournaments. I had plenty of success there. But at the same time, it is a conscious decision I made and I knew that there was always a possibility that I won’t go. And it is the current state or current situation that I hope will change later this year for the US Open. That is the most important tournament for me on American soil,” he added.
