Top Italian tennis coach Riccardo Piatti has great faith in Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini’s chances to win a slam already in 2023. Riccardo knows both players pretty well, and he used to coach Jannik for many years before their sudden split in 2023.
During a recent interview with Italian outlet Il Messaggero, Riccardo commented:
“Sinner and Berrettini can win a Grand Slam already this year because they have taken all the necessary steps to get to this stage. Musetti is a little further back: he is learning from lost matches.”
“Jannik can win on any surface, on grass Matteo will be very hard to beat for everyone: for me it was right to stop, and I will pay attention to how he plays on clay and American hard to give his best on the green.”

WWWLWWWWWW Now ranked no.12, Jannik played his last match on the 19th of February when he lost to world no.8 Daniil Medvedev 5-7 6-2 6-2 in the final in Rotterdam (draw).
This year Jannik achieved a 12-3 win-loss record. This year, the Italian lifted the trophy in Montpellier. The Italian was the runner-up in Rotterdam.
Sinner will compete next in Indian Wells (BNP Paribas Open). He will start from the main draw that will commence on the 8th of March.
Matteo Berrettini in 2023
LWWWWWLLWW Currently ranked no.24, Matteo played his last match on the 17th of January when he lost to world no.70 Andy Murray 6-3 6-3 4-6 6-7(7) 7-6(6) in the 1st round of the Australian Open (draw).
This season Matteo has a 3-3 record. Matteo Berrettini’s most significant result of the present season was reaching the final in Australia.
He is also scheduled to play in Indian Wells (BNP Paribas Open) after Acapulco. The main draw will start on the 27th of February.
Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini have never played each other.
