Serena to finish no.1 in 2014

Serena Williams didn’t have a smashing 2014 by her standards, but her overall performance was good enough to allow her to end the year as the deserving world no.1

Serena has won 6 tournaments in 2014 (Brisbane, Miami, Rome, Stanford, Cincinnati, US Open). Her triumph at the US Open was unbelievable with Serena never conceding more than 3 games per set in any match.

With Maria Sharapova failing to qualify for the semifinals of the WTA finals, Serena is assured to be the world no.1 by year end.

This is the 4th time (the 3rd consecutive one) that Serena ends a season as world no.1. Serena is the 5th player that has ended a season as world no.1 at least 4 times.

8 Graff
7 Navratilova
5 Evert
4 Davenport
4 Serena

Serena will definitely try to tie up with Chris Evert next year, but a couple of players will not agree with that.
