Novak Djokovic is enjoying yet another fantastic campaign at the current Australian Open, where he reached the semifinals after playing fantastic tennis. Unfortunately, Novak Djokovic’s father, Srdjan, hit the headlines again for the wrong reason after he was filmed with Vladimir Putin supporters. That caused a huge outrage in Australia and around the world.
Srdjan released the following statement apologizing for what has happened:
“I am here to support my son only. I had no intention of causing such headlines or disruption. I was outside with Novak’s fans, as I have done after all of my son’s matches, to celebrate his wins and take pictures with them. I had no intention of being caught up in this. My family has lived through the horror of war, and we wish only for peace.
So there is no disruption to tonight’s semi-final for my son or for the other player. I have chosen to watch from home. I wish for a great match and I will be cheering for my son, as always.”

Novak is currently having a run at the Australian Open where he defeated the world no.75 Roberto Carballes Baena 6-3 6-4 6-0, the world no.191 Enzo Couacaud 6-1 6-75 6-2 6-0, the world no.28 Grigor Dimitrov 7-67 6-3 6-4, the world no.24 Alex De Minaur 6-2 6-1 6-2 and the world no.6 Andrey Rublev 6-1 6-2 6-4.
Novak Djokovic will take on the world no.35 Tommy Paul in the semifinal on Friday at 7:30 pm on Rod Laver Arena. They have never played each other up to now in top tournaments.
Djokovic has won 1 title in 2023 in Adelaide.
