Kei Nishikori is the new tennis idol in Asia.
Last week the Japanese has won the tournament in Kuala Lumpur (see article) with an incredible backing of the local crowd. In Japan it’s even better. Kei made full house for his opening match against Ivan Dodig and that… was a great match!
Both Nishikori and Dodig played a great match with the Japanese eventually winning 6-3 6-4 in 85 minutes. Match Stats
Kei: I feel the support of the crowd
Nishikori was particularly happy to play in front of his home crowd to comment “I felt more pressure in New York, it was my first Grand Slam final. Here, I could really feel the support.
“Winning Kuala Lumpur gave me more confidence. I try not to pay attention to the crowd or what the opponent is doing, but it’s always good to play at home. I can feel the support here.”
Next vs. Young
Kei will play Donald Young for a place in the quarters. Head to head is 2-0 for Nishikori that has never conceded a single set to young and he is expected to make a meal of the American.
