Wawrinka loses to world no.103 in Tokyo

Stan Wawrinka didn’t start the Asian Swing in the best possible way to lose to world no.103 Tatsuma Ito in straight sets.

Stan is currently ranked no.4 in the year to date rankings and he would have qualified for the season finale in London if he would have reached the final in Tokyo. He probably needs to wait for next week in Shanghai.

The tournament loses both top seeds (Wawrinka and Ferrer) in the first round.

Wawrinka: This wasn’t a good day at the office

The Swiss was obviously disappointed by his performance “It was not a good day at the office. He started well and then I was trying to come back in the match. First round matches are never easy. He played well, particularly at the end of the first set when he was very aggressive.”

Ito:  I played a very good match

The Japanese commented “I played a very good match. It is the first time I have beaten a Top 5 player. I tried my best every point and I was very focused. I was a little nervous, but I stuck to my game and I finished well.”
