Novak Djokovic should be overjoyed after his former coach and dear friend, Boris Becker, was released from prison after serving for eight months. The German, 55, who has been residing in Britain since 2012, was released on Thursday morning and left for his country shortly after.

The three-time Wimbledon champion was given a 30-month prison sentence in April for concealing assets after being declared bankrupt and transferring large sums of money illegally. He was released early as part of a fast-track deportation program for foreign nationals; ordinarily, he would have had to serve half of his sentence before being eligible for release.

The Southwark Crown Court in London found him guilty on four counts under the Insolvency Act, including taking property, hiding debt, and not telling about his estate.

When Becker won the Wimbledon singles championship in 1985 at the age of 17, he became the first unseeded player to do so.

In June 2017, the former world number one was declared bankrupt.
