The Bullshit Russian Tsitsipas Medvedev

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev are going to clash in the Australian Open semifinal on Friday in what is expected to be a rather enjoyable match.

The spat in Miami

Stefanos and Daniil for sure are not best friends. They had a rather memorable spat in Miami back in 2018 when Medvedev won in 3 sets 2-6 6-4 6-2. The tension was pretty high during that match. After the encounter, Tsitsipas lost his cool to call Daniil “the Bullshit Russian.” Medvedev didn’t take it nicely and he started to threaten Stefanos saying, “you better shut your *** up.” Talking to the umpire, he added: “he’s a small kid who doesn’t know how to fight.”

The umpire had to intervene to avoid physical contact. Apparently, Daniil wasn’t happy with a medical time-out taken by Stefanos and the fact that he didn’t apologize for hitting a net. Tsitsipas didn’t like how Medvedev looked and treated him after that episode.

Stefanos has always stated that he deeply regretted his reaction and he stated that he doesn’t hate Medvedev even if they do not share the best chemistry. Later, Stefanos blocked Medvedev from following him on Instagram.

Apparently, Stefanos got rather depressed after this episode as he didn’t like being targeted by some negative comments on social media.

H2H Tsitsipas – Medvedev

Since Miami, every match between Stefanos and Daniil gets the extra attention of the fans.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev squared off 6 times. The head to head is 5-1 for Medvedev. Previously, the last time they locked horns, Stefanos Tsitsipas won 7-6(5) 6-4 in the round robin in London (Nitto ATP Finals) in November 2019.
