Serena edges slow start, then mauls Pennetta

Once again Serena Williams managed to recover from a slow start to win a match in style. During the last year the world no.1 has frequently coped with bad starts, but then she has often  managed to get into her groove and win. The same has happened against Flavia Pennetta in the US Open quarter final. Serena was 0-3 down (broken twice) to finally find her deadly rhythm. After that it was game over for Flavia that managed to win just 2 games. The final score was 6-3 6-2.

Serena: She was playing very well

Talking about her slow start, Serena commented “I felt she was playing really well. I didn’t feel like I was doing too much wrong out there, and that if she kept it up, she absolutely deserved the win. But I just kept trying to do better.”

Next vs. Makarova

Serena will play Makarova for a place in the final. Head to Head is 3-1 for the American. “Makarova moves well. She doesn’t care who she plays, she gives 100%. Those types of players are often difficult to play because it makes them better. She also has that serve that can go out wide, or you never know where it’s going to go. She has a great backhand and she’s improved her forehand. It’s going to be interesting for me, because she has a lot of momentum going into this match.” said Serena.
