Bouchard falls to Makarova at the Flushing Meadows

Another day of misery for Genie Bouchard that is struggling to find her continuity after reaching the final in Wimbledon.

The American summer was just horrible for the young Canadian that crashed out in the openers in Montreal and Cincinnati, she was upset in the 2nd round in New Haven and now she hasn’t managed to reach the quarters in New York.

Genie lost to world no.18 Ekaterina Makarova 7-6 (2) 6-4. This was the first time in the year that Bouchard hasn’t reach a quarterfinal in a slam.

Makarova: I am really enjoying the game

Ekaterina commented “I’m really enjoying my game. I’m feeling good physically and technically, and am really happy that I’m in the quarters again.

“Today was really tough conditions. It was so humid. Bouchard is always tough because she runs well and is physical. I think it was a really good match, and I’m really happy that at the end of the first and second set, I was a little bit more aggressive.”

Bouchard: I am struggling with injuries

Genie said “Since Wimbledon it’s been a little bit of a struggle with nagging injuries. I have really cut down on practice time. That affects you in a match, especially after a few tough ones late at night. I’m not concerned at all, but with all that and with not feeling great about my game, I still battled to the second week of a Slam. So there are positives. After resting a bit, I’m going to hit the practice courts.”

Next vs. Azarenka

Makarova will play former world no.1 Vika Azarenka for a place in the semifinal. Head to head is 3-2 for Vika, but Makarova has won the last match in Madrid 2013 1-6 6-2 6-3.
