Kvitova stunned by world no.145 at the Flushing Meadows

2014 Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova didn’t have a long life at the US Open.

The Czech had a shot at becoming the new world no.1 at the Flushing Meadows (she had to win the title), but she miserably fell in the third round to qualifier and world no.145 Aleksandra Krunic.

Petra committed a mind blowing 34 unforced errors to be broken 5 times. Match Stats.

Krunic: I didn’t expect to win

The Serbian commented “First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone here for your support. I didn’t expect you would all be cheering for me as much as you did today. It was an amazing atmosphere out here.

It was an honour for me to be on the same court with Petra. She’s a great champion and I watched both of her finals at Wimbledon. To play against such a champion meant I had to give my all on the court and be here as long as possible. But I was just hoping to win a set, I didn’t expect to win!”

Next vs. Azarenka

Now Aleksandra has to play former world no.1 Vika Azarenka. This is the first time they play each other. See H2H ranking progression.
