Carlos Alcaraz and Jack Draper played a highly entertaining match on Monday in Basel. Eventually, it was the world number one to win the contest but that was not very easy for him. After losing the first set 6-3, carlito breezed in the second one winning 6-2. Things became complicated again in the decider when Alcaraz lost a 1-break-up lead. Eventually, carlito won 3-6 6-2 7-5.
Soon after the match, Alcaraz explained why he was struggling especially at the beginning of the contest. While he acknowledged that Jack Draper played great tennis, he also revealed that he was struggling to cope with the court and its slow conditions.
“At the beginning of the match, it was tough,” he commented. “I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning. I wanted to play really aggressively on this court. For me, it’s a bit slower than the other tournaments. But obviously, I had to handle that, I had to work on my problems and change my tactics a little bit in the second set.
I knew that Jack was playing great. He is a really dangerous player and I really had to be focused and, of course, never give up.”
