Camila Giorgi upsets Wozniacki in New Haven

The Italian beats Caroline 6-4 6-2. Video Highlights

Camila Giorgi defeats another “illustrious” opponent: Caroline Wozniacki.

The world no.38 is definitely one of the most interesting players on tour as she has the potential to beat the very best of the business. In 2014 Camila has already beaten players such as Petkovic (twice) , Sharapova, Suarez-Navarro, Cibulkova, Cornet, Azarenka and now Wozniacki. The problem is that she cannot find some continuity in her tennis.

The match against Caroline Wozniacki was one way traffic with Camila breaking the Dane 3 times without dropping a single service game. Eventually the Italian scored 68 points vs. Caroline’s 47. Match Stats

Caroline: I didn’t take advantage of some opportunities

“She hits every ball as hard as she can. She just went for it and the balls were going in. I felt a little tired and didn’t move as well as usual. That doesn’t help when you play somebody where you really have to be ready from the first point.

I knew I was going to get limited break chances, and when I did get them, I didn’t convert. I knew I had to be aggressive out there and try to push her back, but I didn’t manage to do that today. She played well, and I didn’t. I would have loved to have been here longer, but it wasn’t to be this year. Now I just need to take the positives out of it. I get a few extra days to rest up and practice for the US Open.”

Next vs. Muguruza

Giorgi will play Garbine Muguruza in the quarters. Head to head is 1-0 for the Italian.
