WTA Rankings: Halep is the new world no.2, Venus back in top20

The Premier event in Montreal had 2 big winners: Venus Williams and (an idle) Simona Halep

Venus

The American has reached the final in Montreal after defeating her sister Serena in the semi. Venus then lost in straight sets to Radwanska in the final, but she wasn’t so disappointed also because her results made her crack in the top20 (now world no.20).

Halep

Even if Simona hasn’t played in Montreal she has managed to reach a career no.2 as Na Li had to withdraw from the entire US Open series due to a knee injury. Simona is still quite far from Serena, but if the American won’t shine again, The Romanian will have a shot at the very spot of the rankings.

The Biggest Winner: Shelby Rogers

The American reached the 3rd round in Montreal after upsetting home favorite Genie Bouchard to gain 27 places and be ranked no. 86. (career high)

The Biggest Loser: Sorana Cirstea

The Romanian loses in the Montreal Opener to have a terrible 9-17 win-loss record in 2014. She now loses 44 places to be ranked no.80.
