Anett Kontaveit lost a tough and high-quality 3-setter against Serena Williams on Wednesday evening at the US Open. Serena had the full support of the adoring crowd at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Nevertheless, it is well known that American tennis fans can be rather noisy (probably too noisy) when Serena plays.
During the press conference that followed the match, Anett conceded that she was overwhelmed by the crowd. Unfortunately, she struggled to contain her tears and eventually she had to leave the presser. Tough to see.
Interviewer: was there any difference between losing and losing to Serena?
Anett: I definitely had no shame losing to Serena, it was very difficult with the crowdpic.twitter.com/jM6KGoNcYj
