Last August Sascha Zverev announced officially that he would have partnered with Ivan Lendl.
The German expected to see the full results of their collaboration after one year, but instead, everything came much earlier after Sascha won the ATP Finals.
Zverev lost twice in straight sets to Novak Djokovic in the previous weeks and after scoring not many games after he was defeated 6-2 6-1 in the Shanghai semifinal and 6-4 6-1 in the Round Robin in London.
How Lendl helped me to beat Djokovic. ZVEREV
However, Sascha revealed how crucial was Lendl’s input in defending Djokovic in the final. The world no.4 commented
He obviously analyzed the match that I played with him a few days ago, told me a few things I had to do differently. I was more aggressive today. I tried to take the ball earlier. Those kinds of things.
… and about his dad
Then Sascha added
“But my dad is the one that gave me the base. My dad is the one that taught me the game of tennis. I’m very thankful to him for that. Obviously, Ivan, the experience he has on and off the court, is amazing. That helped me, as well, to kind of play the two matches that I played back-to-back now.”
