Thiem wins opener in Hamburg

Dominic Thiem is back to victory in Hamburg!

The world no.55 is one of the most interesting prospects in tennis, but after upsetting Wawrinka in the Madrid 2nd round he was struggling to find his form.

The Austrian had a good start in Hamburg to beat his dear friend Jiri Vesely (another player to watch) 7-5 6-0.

Dominic: It’s a very important win

The Austrian commented “The second set was very good, because it was a tough match against a good friend.  I’ve known him for a very long time. We played juniors together. I haven’t won many matches in the past two months so it’s a very important win. It’s easier for me on clay; I feel comfortable from the first ball.”

Next vs. Granollers

Thiem will play the second round against world no.28 and seed no.8 Granollers. Head to head is 1-0 for Dominic that has defeated Marcel this year in Barcelona 3-6 6-3 6-2.
