Even if Nick Kyrgios and Andy Murray have completely different personalities, they are still on great terms. During an emotional interview with Australian outlet Nine News, Nick’s mother, Norlaila, revealed that Andy was extremely helpful in helping his son.
Nick reached the Wimbledon final a few days ago, but the journey has been quite tough. “It’s been a tough, tough journey, just dealing with criticism and just trying to protect him but I can’t really protect him,” she said.
Norlaila added that in 2019, right before the Australian Open, her son battled against depression and self-harm.
“The self-harming, I saw that and people told me that. I asked him about it and he didn’t want to talk about it at that time.
John [Nick’s former manager] spoke to me that Andy [Murray] is worried about Nick because he can see some evidence of self-harm. And I blame others for that. For just pressuring him, criticising him. Even people we thought might be supporting him.
