Kohlschreiber beats Brown after saving 5 match points in an epic tiebreak

When Dustin Brown plays you are never bored. The German-Jamaican played Philipp Kohlschreiber in a very entertaining match that ended up with an incredible tiebreak.

After losing the first set 6-4, Dustin Brown started to play like he did in the previous round against Nadal (ie like superman) to lead 5-0 in the second. Then the world no.85 went south to lose the following 5 games (Brown’s style… isn’t it?). On a 5-5 score line, Brown turned again in “Super-Dustin” to win the following 3 games, clinch the second set and lead 1-0 in the third. The decider was another great drama. Kohlschreiber wasn’t able to hold serve on a 5-3 score line to squander the first match point. Eventually the match went to an incredible tiebreak that Philipp won 18-16 after saving 5 match points.

At the end of this drama both players scored the same points (119) with Brown firing 19 aces. Match Stats.

Kohlschreiber: I have never played such a long third set in my life

Philipp commented “I don’t think I’ve ever had such a long third set.  It was a mere war of nerves, unbelievable tension. It was very exhausting to keep calm, stay cool and maybe even enjoy it. The atmosphere was extraordinarily great, but in the end you just want to leave the court as the winner. I am happy that I made it in the end.”

The semis vs. Falla

Kohlschreiber will play a surprising Falla in the final 4. The Colombian is a great clay court player and he wasn’t expected to get to the semis in Halle. Head to head is 5-0 for the German that is the hot favourite to get to the final.
