Simona Halep reaches the final in Paris without dropping a single set!

Simona Halep is on a huge roll.

The Romanian has never managed to go beyond the quarters in any major so far, but apparently that is not a problem for her. Simona has dismantled all players on her stroll to the final in straight sets, a feat that was achieved by Justin Henin 7 years ago in 2007!

The semifinal against Andrea Petkovic was one way traffic in the first set as Halep won with a comfortable 6-2. In the second set the Romanian was penalized by a bad start as she had to recover a 1-3 deficit. After breaking back Andrea in the 5th game (2-3), the set went straight to the tie-break. Simona kept her cool to win the breaker at 4. Match Stats.

Simona: I was a bit stronger at the end

The Romanian commented “I’m very emotional and I feel amazing now knowing I will play the final here in Paris. Andrea was very tough and she is a good player, but I was a little bit stronger in the end and am so happy to get through.

I tried my best and did everything I could to win this match and want to thank everyone here today, because you all helped me win. I have a lot of confidence in myself and am looking forward to the final now and hopefully playing another good match.”

The final vs. Sharapova

Simona will play Maria Sharapova in the final. The Russian has recently defeated Halep in the final in Madrid 1-6 6-2 6-3. Head to head is 3-0 for Maria, but the Romanian is in great form and she definitely has a shot at the title.
