Halep, Petkovic reach the semifinals in Paris in style

Easy stuff for Simona Halep and Andrea Petkovic that dismiss their opponents with the same result: 6-2 6-2.

Simona defeated former world no.2 Svetlana Kutznetsova without breaking a sweat. In the first set Simona won 4 consecutive games from a 2-2 score line to clinch the opener 6-2. In the second set the Romanian grabbed an early 4-1 lead to win again 6-2. Match Stats.

Simona was happy by a very strong support she gained from the crowd “It seemed like everybody was with me in the crowd today, so it was amazing on court. Even when I had bad moments on court they were with me and I felt amazing.”

Petkovic

Andrea is back to her best tennis. The German has fully recovered from her injury and she is now fit to play with the very best. Andrea has dismissed former runner-up Sara Errani 6-2 6-2. The game sequence in both sets was very similar. In the first set Petkovic was 0-2 down to win 6 consecutive games. In the second the German recovered a 1-2 deficit winning 5 straight games. “I had a very good game plan from my coach. It didn’t work right at the beginning, so I was getting a little not panicked, but, you know, maybe a little worried. But, I trust my coach a great deal, so I told myself, ‘Stick with it for this set. If it doesn’t work out, you can still change something. If it works out, then keep going.’” said the German.

 

The semifinal

Simona and Andrea have played each other twice. Head to head is 2-0 for Halep that has never conceded a single set to the German. Simona is the hot favorite for reaching the final.
