Naomi Osaka had a rather smooth run in Beijing until her match in the quarters against Shuai Zhang after it took 2 hours and 33 minutes before she defeated the Chinese in 3 sets.
It was pretty clear that Naomi would have paid the price for that marathon, and unfortunately, she had to bow the very next day against a superb Anastasija Sevastova.
Naomi was struggling mentally and physically also to call the trainer on court to check on her back, and now there are some injury concerns.
No serious back injury for Osaka
During the interview following her semifinal, Naomi commented
“I got assessed, and I was told that it wasn’t, like, a life-threatening injury [laughing].
I was just told that it’s from fatigue like I’ve played a lot of matches and stuff. It’s basically just a matter of resting.”
Naomi is scheduled to play the upcoming WTA event in Hong Kong, but there are doubts about her participation.
