Simona Halep didn’t enjoy her Asia swing. In fact, the world no.1 had to surrender in the opening round in both Wuhan and Beijing because she was struggling with a back injury.
The Romanian is now back home where an MRI will reveal the extent of her problem.
Simona commented
“I have some back pain, I’ll know more tomorrow, I hope it’s not that bad. I’m much better now, probably because I am relaxed.
I was stressed that I was not physically ready. I was very well prepared before I left [for China], I trained very well, I left with confidence, positive, but on Sunday at my training [with Kvitovs], my back got completely blocked. I spent two days in bed, and it was still hard for me to play.
I do not regret that I continued to play the set in Beijing (where she lost 6-1), I regret a bit that I continued to play in Wuhan (she lost 6-0 7-5).
The priority is to get back, ”
