The world no.1 is expected to have a smooth start in China if she is not struggling anymore with her back.

Simona Halep is the top seed at the upcoming WTA event in Beijing, but there is 1 thing that may hamper her chances in China: her injury.

The world no.1 is trying to recover from the back injury that has hindered her run in Wuhan where she lost in her opening match against Dominika Cibulkova. If Simona is fit is definitely one of the top favorites to win the title.

In Beijing, the Romanian is the 2017 runner-up and this year she leads the draw. Simona had the good news that she will face a qualifier in the first round. Then, halep is expected to face the following players: Maria Sakkari/Donna Vekic (R2), Ashleigh Barty (R3), Petra Kvitova (1/4), Naomi Osaka (1/2).

Comments from Simona

During the pre-tournament press conference, Simona commented

“This tournament is really beautiful for me because here I touched the No.1. The court is beautiful, the conditions are great, people are looking after us so well. So I feel good and I’m happy that I can be back here.”
