Sara Errani reaches the final in Rome. The first Italian since the 80s!

Great news for the Italian crowd as their compatriot Sara Errani reached a wonderful final in Rome.

The world no.11 had already a great match in the quarters to beat world no.2 Na Li in 3 sets. Of course Sara wasn’t satisfied by that to now defeat world no. 8 Jelena Jankovic 6-3 7-5.

Sara had to face an early break in the 3rd game of the opener at 15 to then win 4 consecutive games (from 1-2 to 5-2) and grab the first set 6-3.

The Italian produced a great performance in the second set when she was 1-4 down to win again 4 consecutive games and lead 5-4. Then we had a bit of a dramma (well we are in Italy… what else?) with 3 consecutive breaks and counter breaks. Eventually Sara hold serve on a 6-5 score line to win the second set 7-5. The match lasted just under 2 hours. Match Stats

Errani: I have just tried to keep my focus

The Italian commented I just tried to keep focused on my game and what I had to do,” Errani said. “The motivation was the crowd. They were unbelievable and I have no words to say what it is like to play on this court with this support. Amazing!”

Sara has also reached the final in doubles with her friend Sara Vinci. She must be rather happy right now!

Sara will face either Serena Williams or Ana Ivanovic in the final.
