The launch of the Laver Cup in 2017 was a huge success. The event had the right format that wasn’t too tough on the players’ body and seeing Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal competing together in the same team was an absolute treat that will stay in the best memories of tennis.
This year, Rafa decided not to play the event that will be held in Chicago. However, even if the King of Clay will be missed, he had the best possible substitute: Novak Djokovic.
The Serbinator is back to his previous form, and he impressed after winning Wimbledon and Cincinnati.
Why Djokovic is happy to play the Laver Cup
During a recent interview, Nole explained why he decided to team up with Roger at the Laver Cup
“I watched Laver Cup from my home last year. I wasn’t competing. I had the elbow injury that kept me away from the tour. But Laver Cup looked really, really good on the TV. All the people who were there, participating, were saying only nice things about it.”
The Laver Cup will take place in Chicago the 21-23 of September.
The Teams
The Team Europe consists of Federer, Djokovic, Zverev, Dimitrov, Goffin, Edmund and the captains will be Borg and Enqvist
Team World will feature Del Potro, Anderson, Isner, Schwartzman, Sock, Kyrgios and the captains will be John and Patrick McEnroe.
This is going to be fun again.
