Funky Brown upsets seed no.1 Isner in Houston!

Tough tournament for John Isner on the home soil.

The defending champion and seed no.1 had to bow in his opener to world no. 101 Dustin Brown.

The German surprised John winning a tough 3 setter in 4-6 7-6 (7) 6-7 (4) in 2 hours and 19 minutes.

From Brown

The German commented “I’ve had a lot of matches where I’ve played good tennis, where I was close, and you’ve just got to keep playing. I’ve got to play my tennis. If I start playing the tennis my opponent wants, that’s not good for me.

He’s been in these situations much more often than me – I got a little tight in the second set, maybe at the end of the third – so I had to try to keep playing. It feels unbelievable.”

Next vs. Querrey

Dusting will face the other American tower (Sam Querrey) in the next round.
