WTA Rankings. Halep world no.5, Sharapova in free fall, Pennetta no.12!

An erratic Indian Wells created some upheavals in the rankings.

Simona Halep

The Romanian has reached the semi-final in Indian Wells to climb other 2 places in the rankings and be ranked world no. 5. Simona is 700 points shy from world no.4 Azarenka, but if Vika struggles with her injury Halep may grab the world on.4 rank rather soon.

Maria Sharapova

Bad stuff for Maria. The Russian couldn’t defend her title in Indian Wells to crash in the second round to Camila Giorgi. Sharapova loses other 2 places to be ranked world no.7. If you consider that she needs now to defend the points accumulated last year reaching the final in Miami… her rankings should suffer even more. She may even crash out the top 10 rather soon.

Flavia Pennetta

At 32 years of age and after a long recovery from her wrist injury, Flavia won probably the most prestigious title of her career. The Italian climbs 9 places to be ranked world no.12.

Camila Giorgi

Another Italian has a big smile after Indian Wells. In fact, the Sharapova’s conqueror, Camila Giorgi, came straight from the qualifications to reach a formidable 4th round. This allowed Camila to grab a world no. 67 career high that will be very helpful to avoid playing the qualifications in many tournaments.

The Biggest Gainer

Casey Dellacqua reached the quarters in Indian Wells also coming straight from the qualifications and gain 22 places:nowworld no.56.

The Biggest Loser

Mona Barthel lost 13 places as she crashed out in the Indian Wells first round. So the German wasn’t able to defend the point she got last year in Indian Wells where she has reached the 4th round. Mona is now ranked world no.84.
