What a strange match between Flavia Pennetta and Sloane Stephens.
The Italian and the American played a good tennis in the first set to then… well… implode both of them in the second and third set. The wind definitely played a great part in it.
Flavia won the first set breaking Sloane in the 7th game (4-3) then… everything got confused. In the second set we had 7 breaks on 12 games with Sloane winning 7-5. In the decider the American was leading 3-0 to just go south and lose 6-4.
Pennetta: We didn’t play our best tennis
Flavia was honest at the end of the match to admit “We didn’t play our best tennis. Maybe in the beginning we played much better, and in the second one, but the third was a disaster for both of us. I’m happy to get through this match, but I don’t have good feelings right now – it’s just crazy outside, the wind is just coming out of nowhere.
“But on the other hand I’m happy because I was 3-0 down in the third and fought until the last point.”
The semi vs. Na Li
Flavia will play Na Li in the final. Head to head is 2-2, but the Chinese is the overwhelming favourite.
