Djokovic survives Cilic to reach the quarters in Indian Wells

That was a very strange match from Novak Djokovic.

The Serb was 0-5 0-30 down in the opener against Marin Cilic for the absolute surprise of everybody. It seemed as the world no.2 was ready for a nasty bagel (6-0). Finally the first set ended 6-1 and Nole managed to “reset” everything to curiously win the last 2 sets without much trouble.

Djokovic: I believe I could come back

After the match Nole stated “I was composed and mentally calm, regardless of the score line. I just accepted the fact that he came out of the blocks better than I did. He was very aggressive, not missing at all, serving incredibly fast and accurate. I couldn’t do much really. I was forced to back up.

I believed that I could come back. The second set was a whole new story. I reset myself and told myself it was the start of the match. I forgot about the first set and the second and third went really well. It was the intensity I want to have and I hope to keep it up.” he added.

Next vs. Benneteau

The Serbian will play Julien Benneteau in the quarters. Nole leads the Frenchman 5-1 in H2H match, but you’ll never know how Julien is going to play. Djokovic is still the hot favourite.
